Now that we’re all getting more used to the Facebook Timeline, there’s one area that’s worth highlighting.
The row of apps underneath your main cover image is a great opportunity to showcase what your business can do. But many page owners aren’t taking advantage of this.
If you’ve got a Facebook shop, a link from Facebook to your blog or website, a free download, a link from Facebook to your Twitter feed and so on, you’d like to promote them, yes? So, rather than relying on the default images supplied by the app owner (which frankly look pretty basic in most cases), why not spend a bit of time (and – gasp! – possibly money) on getting some great designs done?
Here’s an example of a page which hasn’t done this; do you feel you want to click on these apps and take action?
But here are some apps that do invite you to do more (recognise the Page?):
The purpose of this isn’t to blow my own trumpet (well, not really), but hopefully to convince you that it really is worth putting a bit of effort into this area.
To edit your app covers, click on the down arrow to the right of your visible apps, and then click the edit pencil to the top right of the app you want to edit. Select ‘edit settings’, click on ‘change’ by Custom Tab Image, and upload your new image. You can also edit the tab name, so that your image can contain a call to action and your name a description of what it is – or vice versa.
The size for the app cover design is 107px wide and 70px high, although if your image is bigger Facebook will resize it for you.
If you want to create your own app covers, there’s a handy timeline image creation tool you can use. It’s free, and the designs you will get from it are a bit limited – but they’ll be unique to you!
So go on, blow your own app trumpet and make it personal. Even better, tie your app covers in with your cover image design and your page will have a much greater visual impact.
What do you think? Is it worth personalising your Page in this way? What have you done on yours?
