Having a good Twitter following is pretty much essential if you want to get your message across using this platform. But what’s the best way of getting as many quality followers as possible? It goes without saying that the best way of getting followers is to follow others (many will follow you back), so this post details the best ways to follow the best people.
1) Build your follower list gradually. Twitter will stop you following any more accounts after you’ve followed 2,000, unless you have a sufficient follower base as well.
2) Tweet quality stuff and engage with your follower base, so that people want to follow you.
3) Set up searches for the kind of words and phrases that your ideal follower would include in their tweets, and when you find someone suitable, follow them. Although not a ‘mass following’ technique, this will yield some really high quality followers for you.
(I didn’t say it was all easy, did I?)
Here’s the easier bit though, although it can take a bit of time:
4) Use tweepi.com to mimic other Tweeps who are in your niche and have good follower bases, for example you could follow the accounts which follow one of your competitors. Or if you have a role model you could follow the accounts which they follow. This website also has some great reciprocation and unfollow features.
5) Use manageflitter.com to unfollow selected Tweeps. Why would you want to do that? So that you don’t get to 2,000 followees and find that you can’t follow any more, when there are dormant, poor quality or non following accounts that you follow.
6) Use twellow.com to find Tweeps in your local area, if this is relevant to you. Click on ‘Twellowhood’ to enter the Twitter yellow pages listings. And why you add yourself while you’re at it, so other people can find you?
7) Use followerwonk.com to search by bio – enter keywords to find the sort of Tweeps you’d like to follow, from the information they’ve already entered about themselves.
